Trainee Requirements: Be sure to read completely before emailing or calling us.

NOTE: WE ARE NOT A SCHOOL.  WE’RE A NON-PROFIT CHARITY THAT SELECTS A HANDFUL OF TRAINEES FOR AVAILABLE POSITIONS ANNUALLY.  TRAINEES WORK AS ACTUAL NEWS REPORTERS IN SMALL MARKETS. THERE IS NO FEE TO BE PLACED.

The MIBTP has created positions at broadcast facilities in the areas of:

* Radio/TV News Reporting (Accepting Current Applications)
* Radio/TV News Management/Producer
* TV/Film Production

MIBTP offers training to those individuals who are minorities and who have encountered substantial difficulty in gaining access to broadcast careers as a result.

OBJECTIVE:

The goal of the program is the development of writing, editing, producing and reporting skills for News Reporter Trainees. News Management Trainees will have had previous experience in any professional working environment. They will be taught leadership skills to help recruit, teach and motivate news people; problem-solving techniques; interpersonal skills and ways to deal with career and management issues. TV/Film Production trainees will work in a variety of entry-level positions and gain valuable hands-on experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have a BA or BS degree in any field and proven interest in broadcast journalism/news reporting, film/TV production through past jobs and extracurricular activities such as clubs and associations. Other requirements: The applicant must also prove the extent of his/her job search through documentation that includes: contacted employers, date contacted, name of contact, phone number, position sought and end results. The final requirement is that the applicant must have been out of school for a minimum of one year. Applicants from across the country may apply. If they are selected and a training facility is not located near them, they will have to relocate at their own expense.

NOTE: News Management/Producer applicants must have worked within a broadcast news environment for a minimum of two years prior to applying as well.

SALARY:

The selected trainees will be paid from minimum wage and up for twelve months. (Benefits are usually not included).

FUTURE EMPLOYMENT:

Permanent employment after training is not guaranteed and should not be expected. MIBTP will however, put every effort into helping you find employment through established contacts. (Also know that most facilities hire the trainees on a full-time, permanent basis once the program is completed. The salary is increased and benefits added).
