“For more than a decade, this museum has been a dream we’ve carried together. Through changes of city and changes of plans, all in service of a simple belief: that these stories told through images belong to everyone.
We built the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art to be a home to the people’s art: the illustrations, comics, murals, and photographs that shape how we see ourselves and each other, even when they haven’t always been given their due. We poured our collection, our resources, and our hopes into these galleries. But a museum isn’t truly alive until people walk through its doors.
So today, we hand it over. This building, this collection, these gardens. It’s no longer ours to imagine. It’s yours to discover. We hope that as you move through these galleries and these grounds, you see yourselves reflected back, that you find a story that feels like your own, and that you leave believing, as we do, that this is just the beginning.
Welcome home.”
